About CeraMaji

CeraMaji is a Kenyan legal entity created by ICChange and established as the anchor tenant at KIMSSEA, the Kenya Innovative Manufacturing Space and Social Entrepreneurship Academy.

CeraMaji manufactures ceramic household water filters designed to support safer household water filtration. It began with a practical challenge: could ICChange help create a highly affordable point-of-use water filtration system that improves access to quality drinking water and quality of life through a local Kenyan solution?

Through CeraMaji, ICChange is working to connect a practical public-benefit need — household water access — with local manufacturing, product education, distribution readiness, and accountable development pathways.

CeraMaji is not only a product line. It is a practical example of what KIMSSEA is intended to support: locally grounded production that can respond to real community needs while building technical capacity, enterprise readiness, and stronger pathways for community-serving innovation.

CeraMaji Within KIMSSEA

KIMSSEA is an ICChange Solutions Space initiative in Kenya. It is designed to help practical, community-serving innovations move from idea, prototype, or small-scale production toward stronger training, implementation, local manufacturing, enterprise readiness, and eventual scale.

CeraMaji is the anchor tenant within that broader platform.

This matters because clean-water access is not only a distribution challenge. It is also a systems challenge involving local production, affordability, quality, education, trust, supply, training, and accountable delivery.

By situating CeraMaji within KIMSSEA, ICChange is helping connect household water filtration with the broader conditions needed for practical solutions to take hold: manufacturing capacity, technical learning, mentorship, distribution readiness, reporting, and community benefit.

The System Problem

Many households continue to face unreliable access to quality drinking water. Household-level water filtration can be one practical part of the response, especially where communities need affordable, usable, and locally available options.

At the same time, many clean-water solutions are treated mainly as products to distribute rather than pathways to build. Finished products may be imported or delivered into communities without strengthening the local production systems, skills, supply chains, or enterprise capacity needed for longer-term resilience.

This creates a gap between water access needs and local capability.

Communities need practical tools that support safer household water use. Local producers need the infrastructure, technical support, quality systems, distribution pathways, and operating discipline needed to produce and sustain those tools. Donors and partners need confidence that support is connected to a responsible pathway, not only a one-time product purchase.

CeraMaji helps address this gap by connecting ceramic water filtration with local production inside the KIMSSEA platform.

Over time, this can help shift clean-water support from isolated product delivery toward a more practical, affordable, and locally grounded pathway for community benefit.

What CeraMaji Supports

CeraMaji supports a practical clean-water pathway connected to local production in Kenya. Its ceramic household water filters provide a tangible way to connect manufacturing capacity with household water access.

Within the KIMSSEA environment, CeraMaji may also support broader learning around product development, production discipline, quality control, distribution readiness, user education, inventory tracking, and reporting.

This makes CeraMaji a useful proof point for KIMSSEA’s broader platform model. It shows how a specific production stream can connect local manufacturing with public-benefit outcomes and help build stronger systems around practical solutions.

CeraMaji now serves as the anchor tenant at KIMSSEA. It is both a tangible clean-water stream and a demonstration of a larger systems question: how can useful local products be produced, supported, distributed, and reported on in ways that serve communities over time?

Through KIMSSEA, ICChange is working to connect community need, local production, mentorship, training, philanthropic support, and accountable development pathways in one practical platform.

The goal is not simply to fund filters. The goal is to help strengthen a clean-water pathway that connects local manufacturing with community benefit.
